Discover Why Everyone's Raving about Restaurant N-44

Introduction

N-44 Restaurant and Bar is a popular restaurant in the Shopping Center  in Puerto de Mogan, brought to life by former  Norwegian windsurfing pro Vidar Jensen. Opening its doors in 2017, it's the second restaurant for Vidar, who first welcomed diners in Puerto Rico in 2008. The name N-44 isn't just a catchy label; it's a tribute to Jensen's days riding the waves, mirroring the sail number from his windsurfing board. Positioned right across from the Cordial Playa Hotel, on the first floor, N-44 offers visitors food in a relaxed, friendly setting.

The goal of N-44 Restaurant and Bar, as envisioned on their website, is to provide a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Whether guests come for a meal or just to relax with a drink, they aim to do so in a setting that’s both beautiful and comfortable—on their expansive terrace. The driving force behind N-44 is a commitment to hard work and dedication, qualities that have allowed them to excel in creating dishes that are not only fresh and hearty but also simple and full of flavor.

Their Mega Double Bacon Cheeseburger, a towering creation for the famished, and their Angus beef selections, seasoned and cooked to perfection, promise to delight meat-lovers. The tapas, especially the mixed selection, offer a taste of local cuisine, ideal for those looking to indulge in a variety of flavors. On the beverage front, their wine list features thoughtfully selected vintages, while the cocktail menu, with classics like the Aperol Spritz and Mojitos, provides a refreshing complement to any meal. Each dish is crafted with creativity and enthusiasm by the talentful Head Chef  Martin.

For Starter I had a Nachos N-44 to share. It features a hearty portion of nachos generously layered with melted cheese. The nachos are topped with a fresh and zesty guacamole, adding a creamy texture and a rich flavor that complements the crunch of the chips. Slices of jalapeño, offering a spicy kick that cuts through the richness, while diced tomatoes and a sprinkling of chopped herbs add a burst of freshness. This dish is a perfect shareable appetizer, inviting diners to dive in and enjoy a casual yet flavorful beginning to their meal.

For main I chose the Lightly Salted Cod Supreme. This dish feature piece of lightly salted cod, cooked to perfection with a moist and flaky texture. It's served with a side of creamy hollandaise sauce, adding a rich and buttery complement to the mild flavor of the fish. Accompanying the cod I chose gratinated potatoes, baked until they have a golden crust on top, while still being soft and comforting inside. The dish is garnished with a sprinkle of crispy bacon, adding a savory crunch, and a touch of red beet microgreens that bring a pop of color and a hint of earthiness. Together, these elements create a harmonious blend of textures and flavors, making for a satisfying and well-rounded meal.

Personally I found that the gratinated potatoes was a bit on the dy side and would benefit from more generosity with cream. Over all the food was really nice and scores 9/10

The wine selection at N-44 is thoughtfully curated to pair well with their menu, featuring a variety of reds, whites, and rosés. Prices for a glass start at a reasonable €5.50, accommodating casual sippers, while bottles are available from €17.90, appealing to those wishing to indulge in a full dining experience. The offerings include organic options and popular regional choices, ensuring there's a wine to suit every palate and occasion. The price range suggests accessibility for a wide range of customers, from those looking for a simple glass of wine to others seeking a more premium bottle to complement their meal.

The menu has limited options for dietary restrictions (like vegan, gluten-free, etc.)

The inclusion of a children's menu suggests a family-friendly approach. Furthermore, the availability of extra sauces and different potato side dishes allows for customization of meals. The diverse menu seems designed to appeal to a broad audience, with enough variety to invite repeat visits.

Absence of clear labeling for allergens or dietary restrictions directly on the menu might inconvenience those with specific needs.

The menu's presentation also comes across as traditional without clear indications of the restaurant's specialties, which could help guide diners towards the establishment's best offerings. A more curated menu with highlighted signature dishes and a clearer emphasis on local cuisine might enhance the dining experience.

The decor strikes a balance between modernity and comfort. The use of natural wood in the structure gives a nod to traditional design, while the furniture ensures a relaxed dining experience. The layout encourages social gatherings. The layout seems quite open, which could lead to a lack of privacy and increased noise levels when the restaurant is busy. A

Pricerange:

The menu of N-44 presents a moderate to high price range, indicative of its quality offerings and scenic location. Starters such as tapas begin around €3.00, reaching €16.90 for a mixed selection, catering to various appetites and group sizes. Salads and pasta dishes hover around €10.00 to €12.50, which is reasonable for a sit-down restaurant in a tourist area.

For heartier meals like the Angus beef burgers and main course steaks, prices ascend from €12.50 to around €24.90, aligning with the premium meats' market value. Fish and chips are a more budget-friendly option at €15.90, while a gratifying fillet steak with peppercorn or other sauces sits at €22.90, reflecting the upscale nature of the ingredients.

Children's menu items are consistently priced at €7.50, offering a family-friendly option. The drinks menu complements the meal selections with a variety of choices from soft drinks at €2.00 to wines and cocktails, suggesting a thoughtful consideration for pairing with meals.

Given the restaurant's setting in a sought-after holiday destination and its provision of a full dining experience from appetizer to dessert, the prices suggest a focus on value through quality and atmosphere rather than competing as a budget eatery.
